Boronizing (Boriding) is a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) pack cementation process whereby boron atoms are diffused into steel and other substrates of iron, nickel and cobalt base alloys, forming an intermetallic compound at the surface base metal. Uniform diffusion case depths are controlled by the thermo chemical reactions. Boronizing (Boriding) provides maximum resistance to abrasion, erosion, and wear – with negligible growth to the original part. Parts are metallurgically treated with our proprietary boron formulas, creating a new, very hard boronized metal steel surface.
Energy, Aerospace, and other industrial companies understand the value of high performing parts that minimize maintenance and downtime. As one of the first providers of the boronizing (Boriding) process, VaporKote has significantly decreased wear, erosion, and abrasion problems on numerous critical parts and equipment. Boronizing (Boriding) increases component wear life. Ensuring a very hard, wear-resistant surface, our erosion protection system uses a boron gas diffusion coating or boronized process.
VaporKote wear-resistant boron hardened components can be held to close tolerances and, if needed, secondary machining can be done on coated surfaces. Masking is done for areas not requiring a hard surface thus enabling the surface to be easily machined after boronizing.
Boronized pumps, valves, pipe spools, elbows, and other components are fabricated, welded, and boron-hardened for wear and erosion protection.
VaporKote specializes in manufacturing boron hardened pump wear rings, boronized pump impellers and many other parts that are much harder and more durable than heat treated, plasma sprayed, or stellite overlaid rings. Boronized parts are approved for critical aerospace components. Contact us regarding your pump wear ring needs or metal erosion protective coatings and erosion protection services.

The powder-borne process of boronizing coatings can significantly minimize the adverse effects of erosion. Our metal erosion protective coatings are much more cost-effective and efficient than any other surface treatment methods. Furthermore, our protective coatings are completely environmentally safe as they produce no toxic waste.
VaporKote can boronize parts up to 25 feet long. Contact us today for a quote!
Boronized Metal Treatment:
The most defining feature of our boronizing coatings is that they form metallurgical bonds rather than mechanical bonds.
Metallurgical bonds are much stronger than their mechanical counterparts. This means that the intermetallic layer formed as a direct consequence of our boron diffusion coatings are resilient and won’t come off any time soon!
We take special care during the boronized metal treatment process to make sure that the intermetallic layer is as uniform as it can be. We make use of thermochemical reactions to ensure that there aren’t diffusion free zones and that the intermetallic layer is uniformly dense all over the substrate.
What makes VaporKote’s bornozing services powerful is that they’re versatile and can be used in a variety of different industries that are susceptible to erosion and corrosion damages. This is the reason we find clients in a plethora of different industries ranging from oil production to aerospace engineering!
Our metal erosion protection coatings lower the substrate’s coefficient of friction which allows our clients to use their bornoized machines for longer without running the risk of sparks and industrial fires. Furthermore, we elevate the overall microhardness of the substrate to an impressive 1500 KNOOP which makes it perfect for clients operating in the field of petrochemical refining and heat exchanger manufacturing, etc.
Operating out Anaheim, CA, VaporKote is one of the leading providers of reliable boronizing services in the world. For more detailed information about how your company stands to benefit from our services, get in touch with us today!
